R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Women's Business Center in Edinburg celebrated
  its 10th anniversary in September 2014, and this milestone
  represents a fitting opportunity to take note of the organization's
  contributions to women entrepreneurs in the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, Established by the Southwest Community Investment
  Corporation in 2004, the Women's Business Center seeks to empower
  traditionally disadvantaged women in the Valley by promoting the
  creation and development of women-owned businesses; and
         WHEREAS, The center's services include mentoring sessions
  with professionals, assistance with loan applications and business
  plan development, market research, and financial analysis; the
  center also helps its clients get access to credit and capital and
  identifies opportunities for trade and federal contracts; and
         WHEREAS, In its first decade, the Women's Business Center has
  helped nearly 100 women either start or expand a business, and it
  has provided training in finance, management, and other skills to
  approximately 3,000 additional clients; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of executive director Maria
  "Charo" Mann, the Women's Business Center has provided many women
  in the Rio Grande Valley with the tools, the knowledge, and the
  inspiration to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Women's
  Business Center in Edinburg and extend to the center's staff and
  clients sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
