R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The life of a highly respected physician and civic
  leader drew to a close with the passing of Dr. Jack Leigh Eidson of
  Weatherford on June 15, 2014, at the age of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Born on August 26, 1922, in Greenville, South
  Carolina, Jack Eidson was the son of Charles and Margaret Eidson; he
  graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1943, where he
  was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Sigma fraternities,
  and pursued his medical degree at the Baylor University College of
  Medicine during World War II, while enlisted in the U.S. Army; he
  graduated in 1946 and subsequently served with the Army Air Corps at
  bases in Texas, Indiana, and Colorado; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, "Dr. Jack" moved to
  Weatherford, becoming one of only eight physicians practicing in
  the city; he was well known for his gracious nature and gentle
  bedside manner, and during the more than 50 years that he conducted
  his general practice, he helped deliver more than 5,000 babies and
  benefited patients with his broad range of medical expertise; in
  addition, he contributed to the health and well-being of area
  residents as a health officer and medical director for the City of
  Weatherford and as an executive committee member for Region 5 of the
  Health Service Agency; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed physician was also active in a number
  of community organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America,
  the United Way, the Masons, the Weatherford Lions Club, and the
  Weatherford Chamber of Commerce; a man of faith, he was an ordained
  elder at Grace First Presbyterian Church for many years; moreover,
  he served his fellow citizens as a three-term city commissioner and
  as mayor pro tem, and he was honored for his many contributions with
  an Outstanding Citizen Award in 1979; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Eidson and his wife, Wanda, shared a rewarding
  marriage until the time of her passing; he was a caring father to
  his children, Scott and Carroll, who preceded him in death, as well
  as to his sons, Jack, Mark, and Jon; he later knew the joy of
  welcoming a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren into
  the family; and
         WHEREAS, The dedicated work of Dr. Eidson had a profound and
  positive effect on the residents of Weatherford over the course of
  many decades, and although his loss is felt deeply by all who knew
  him, his legacy of compassionate care and community service will be
  appreciated for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Jack Leigh Eidson
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  sons, Jack Eidson Jr. and his wife, Judy, Mark Eidson and his wife,
  Sarah, and Jon Eidson and his wife, Lynne; to his grandchildren and
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Jack
  Leigh Eidson.
