R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable E. J. King of Angleton retired as |
|
Brazoria County Judge on December 31, 2014, concluding an |
|
outstanding record of public service in behalf of his fellow |
|
citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, A member of the Anahuac High School Class of 1962, |
|
"Joe" King was a security agent in the U.S. Army for two years and |
|
went on to earn an associate's degree in law enforcement from Alvin |
|
Community College in 1974 and a bachelor's degree in administration |
|
of criminal justice from the University of Houston--Clear Lake in |
|
1977; and |
|
WHEREAS, First elected Brazoria County Judge in 2006, Judge |
|
King served with notable dedication throughout his tenure; he |
|
brought to the position a wide range of experience that he gained |
|
through an impressive career in law enforcement, which included |
|
nearly a quarter-century as Brazoria County Sheriff, as well as |
|
service as a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, a |
|
lieutenant with the Brazoria Police Department, and a law |
|
enforcement instructor at Brazosport Community College; he also |
|
completed training at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, |
|
Virginia, in 1986; and |
|
WHEREAS, He has additionally held leadership roles in |
|
numerous professional organizations, among them the Brazoria |
|
County Peace Officers Association, the Southeast Texas Association |
|
for Identification and Investigation Officers, the Southeast Texas |
|
Police Chiefs Association, and the Sheriffs' Association of Texas; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Judge King further distinguished himself by giving |
|
of his time and talents to a number of civic groups and other worthy |
|
causes; he served as director of the Brazoria County Association |
|
for Citizens with Handicaps (BACH), ActionS, Inc., of Brazoria |
|
County, the local Red Cross, the Brazoria County Cattlemen's |
|
Association, and the Brazoria County Fair Association, and he has |
|
also been active in the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers |
|
Association, the American Legion, and the 100 Club of Brazoria |
|
County; he is a valued congregant of Most Holy Trinity Catholic |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions to his |
|
profession and his community, Judge King was presented with the |
|
2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of |
|
Houston--Clear Lake, the 2007 Outstanding Alumnus Award from the |
|
Alvin Community College Alumni Association, and the 2004 |
|
Distinguished Citizen Award from the Bay Area Council of the Boy |
|
Scouts of America; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe King has made countless positive and lasting |
|
contributions through his service in Brazoria County, and he truly |
|
merits special recognition for his achievements; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor E. J. "Joe" King, former Brazoria County |
|
Judge, and extend to him sincere best wishes for much happiness in |
|
his well-deserved retirement; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Judge King as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
