R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Pioneers Youth Leadership Program is |
|
|
contributing immeasurably to the Texas Hill Country and South Texas |
|
|
regions by working to develop the community leaders of tomorrow; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Created to help encourage in high school students |
|
|
the desire and potential to effect meaningful change within their |
|
|
communities, this notable initiative cultivates positive character |
|
|
traits in participants and engages their critical thinking skills |
|
|
through training and experience; during the 2014-2015 school year, |
|
|
145 students are taking part in the program, which operates in nine |
|
|
school districts across Dimmit, Edwards, Kimble, Mason, Real, |
|
|
Travis, and Uvalde Counties; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Pioneers Youth Leadership Program supports |
|
|
learning through action, and on January 21 and 22, 2015, these fine |
|
|
young Texans and their director, Real County Judge Garry Merritt, |
|
|
visited the Capitol for their State Leadership Forum; in addition |
|
|
to meeting with elected officials, students attended workshops with |
|
|
staff members from the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Department |
|
|
of Agriculture, and the Texas Water Development Board to gain a |
|
|
greater understanding of public issues of importance to rural |
|
|
communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and |
|
|
involved citizenry, the Pioneers Youth Leadership Program is |
|
|
helping to create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone |
|
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the Pioneers Youth Leadership Program for |
|
|
its work to promote community service and personal growth among |
|
|
young Texans and extend to all those affiliated with the group |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
