R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Lake Jackson lost an esteemed business
  and community leader with the passing of James Michael Lowrey on
  August 31, 2014, at the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Sweetwater on June 24, 1944, Mike Lowrey was
  the son of Wallace and Marguerite Lowrey; he graduated from
  Brazosport High School and earned a bachelor's degree in management
  from Lamar University, before returning to Brazoria County to work
  as a loader at Win-Way Scaffold Builders; he rose through the ranks
  at the firm and later purchased a controlling interest and renamed
  the business Miken Specialties; he served as president and CEO of
  the company until 2008; and
         WHEREAS, This respected businessman also contributed to his
  community, serving as a board member for Texas Gulf Bancshares and
  Texas Gulf Bank and as a commissioner and chair
  of Port Freeport; he
  gave freely of his time and talents to the 100 Club of Brazoria
  County, United Way, Junior Achievement of Brazoria County, and
  other worthy organizations; moreover, he made several generous
  donations to institutions in the area through the Mike and Leslie
  Lowrey Foundation, funding an emergency service center for the
  Brazosport Regional Health System and providing financial
  assistance to Brazosport College; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Lowrey was recognized with a
  number of prestigious accolades, earning induction into the
  Brazoria County Business Hall of Fame and receiving the
  Philanthropist of the Year Award from the Community Foundation of
  Brazoria County, among others; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a fine family, Mr. Lowrey enjoyed a
  rewarding marriage of nearly 50 years with his wife, Leslie; and
         WHEREAS, Mike Lowrey made a meaningful difference in the
  lives of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and he will be
  missed and fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Michael Lowrey
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Leslie Lowrey; to his children and grandchildren; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mike
  Lowrey.
