R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud residents of Wylie are gathering in Austin on |
|
March 3 and 4, 2015, to celebrate Wylie Days at the State Capitol; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Wylie was organized in the early 1870s and |
|
incorporated in 1887 with the arrival of the Gulf, Colorado, and |
|
Santa Fe Railway; the city has grown immensely since its early days |
|
on the Texas frontier, and it currently boasts a population of |
|
nearly 45,000, almost triple the number reported in the 2000 |
|
census; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the City of Wylie, Wylie Independent School |
|
District, Wylie Chamber of Commerce, and Wylie Economic Development |
|
Corporation are working in concert to build a strong community that |
|
strives to honor the past, embrace the present, and plan for the |
|
future, while valuing unity, relationships, and trust; and |
|
WHEREAS, Recently called one of the best small cities in the |
|
country in which to raise a family, Wylie fosters a spirit of |
|
cooperation that leads to a thriving business environment and |
|
outstanding schools; moreover, while it is one of the fastest |
|
growing communities in the state, its crime rate decreased by five |
|
percent in 2014, and Wylie Fire Rescue is one of only 13 departments |
|
in the state to earn the highest Public Protection Classification |
|
rating; and |
|
WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich and colorful history as they |
|
work together to build a bright future, the citizens of Wylie may |
|
take justifiable pride in their hometown; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 3 and 4, 2015, as Wylie Days at |
|
the State Capitol and extend sincere best wishes to the visiting |
|
delegation for an informative and enjoyable stay in Austin. |
