R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of Paulette Brooks King of Canadian, who passed away on September
  12, 2013, at the age of 64; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Canadian on March 4, 1949, the former
  Paulette Brooks was the youngest of eight children of Buster and
  Winnie Brooks; growing up, she shared a special bond with her older
  sisters; as a teenager, she worked as a carhop at a local drive-in;
  it was there she met her future husband, Buddy King, whom she
  married on December 22, 1965; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. King was a partner and bookkeeper in the family
  business, and she became the devoted mother of three children,
  Kristi, Kari, and Ken; during their youth, she attended every
  sporting event, dance recital, school play, and rodeo competition
  they participated in; she was a talented cook, and everyone looked
  forward to sharing the meals she prepared for holidays and other
  occasions; bright and intuitive, she always stood ready to help
  solve any problem that might arise; and
         WHEREAS, In later years, Ms. King welcomed seven
  grandchildren and a great-grandchild into her treasured family; she
  devoted even more time to serving her church, Abundant Life
  Assembly of God, and she enjoyed traveling with her husband to
  antique auctions, where she encountered many members of her large,
  eclectic circle of friends; and
         WHEREAS, Even while battling ovarian cancer, Ms. King
  remained the pillar of her family, and she took tender care of her
  husband following his heart surgery; her grace, courage, and deep
  faith were an inspiration to all, and she is one of the namesakes of
  the KK125 Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, cofounded by her son,
  State Representative Ken King; and
         WHEREAS, Paulette King brought joy to innumerable people
  through her warmth and kindness, and she will forever hold a special
  place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Paulette Brooks
  King and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones: to her
  husband, Buddy King; to her children, Kristi Lowery, Kari Philips,
  and Ken King and his wife, Robin; to her grandchildren, Kimberly
  Lowery, Hailey Philips Jasarevic and her husband, Amer, Kendra
  Lowery, Quenton Philips, Marley Philips, Kaleb King, and Karis
  King; to her great-grandchild, Aven Philips; to her sisters, Vona
  Benge and Zelda Roberson; and to her many other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paulette
  Brooks King.
