R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members, staff, and supporters of the Boys & Girls |
|
|
Clubs are gathering at the State Capitol on March 3, 2015, providing |
|
|
a fitting occasion to pay tribute to this noteworthy organization |
|
|
and to recognize the Texas State Youth and Texas Military Youth of |
|
|
the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs provide services to more than |
|
|
360,000 school-aged youth in over 180 communities in Texas, with |
|
|
the goal to inspire all young people, especially those who need it |
|
|
most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, |
|
|
and caring citizens; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Evidence-based and proven effective, the youth |
|
|
development programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs generate strong |
|
|
results in three areas--academic success, healthy lifestyles, and |
|
|
good character and citizenship; the clubs also encourage an |
|
|
appreciation of the arts and promote fitness and active |
|
|
participation in sports; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Taken together, these programs foster in children a |
|
|
healthier self-image, as well as improved educational, emotional, |
|
|
and cultural awareness, while also promoting leadership, community |
|
|
involvement, strong moral values, and enhanced life-management |
|
|
skills; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On March 3, one of eight regional finalists will be |
|
|
named Texas State Youth of the Year, and one of eight youths of the |
|
|
year from military-based clubs will be selected as Texas Military |
|
|
Youth of the Year; these two outstanding individuals will then |
|
|
represent the state in the Southwest Regional and possibly the |
|
|
National Youth of the Year and National Military Youth of the Year |
|
|
competitions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys & Girls Clubs have |
|
|
encouraged their members to aspire to the highest levels of |
|
|
personal development and to become good citizens, and the |
|
|
organization has made a positive and lasting difference in the |
|
|
lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the 2015 Texas State Youth of the |
|
|
Year and Texas Military Youth of the Year and commend the Boys & |
|
|
Girls Clubs of Texas for their efforts on behalf of youth and their |
|
|
families. |
