R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Independent pharmacists play a vital role in our |
|
|
nation's health care system; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Highly trained medical professionals, pharmacists |
|
|
have completed many years of advanced education in chemistry, |
|
|
biology, anatomy, and medicine; their expertise includes the uses, |
|
|
side effects, interactions, and contraindications of prescription |
|
|
and over-the-counter drugs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Pharmacists develop relationships of trust with |
|
|
their customers in order to ensure safety and to improve health |
|
|
outcomes; by monitoring patient histories, they can offer important |
|
|
advice to customers and their doctors, and they educate patients |
|
|
about such matters as the warning signs of allergic reactions or |
|
|
overdoses; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Across Texas, independent pharmacists operate |
|
|
approximately 2,000 small businesses that contribute to the |
|
|
vibrancy of the local economy while expanding access to health |
|
|
care, and in some rural communities, the independent pharmacist may |
|
|
be the only medical professional readily available for |
|
|
consultation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Independent pharmacists are committed to improving |
|
|
access to affordable, high-quality health care, and their |
|
|
contributions have made a positive difference in the lives of |
|
|
innumerable Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2015, as Independent |
|
|
Pharmacists Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
|
|
participating in this event sincere best wishes for an informative |
|
|
and enjoyable visit. |
