R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Zoila Cardenas of James Mitchell Elementary School
  in the Georgetown Independent School District has been named the
  2014-2015 Education Service Center Region 13 Elementary Teacher of
  the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A solid education provides young Texans with the
  tools they need to become successful and productive adults, and
  Ms. Cardenas is dedicated to helping ensure that the future of the
  Lone Star State rests in capable hands; for the past decade, she has
  worked as a second- and fifth-grade bilingual teacher in the
  Georgetown ISD; she has also devoted countless hours to assignments
  that have impacted the education of students more generally,
  serving on such bodies as the school district's science and reading
  textbook adoption committees and the State Textbook Review Panel
  for 2010 and 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cardenas has additionally given of her time and
  talents in support of many extracurricular activities at Mitchell
  Elementary; in 2009, she launched a Saturday morning tutorial
  program that has since grown to assist 60 underserved students in a
  variety of subjects with the aid of six other teacher volunteers;
  she has also organized science fairs and sponsored clubs, including
  Girlstart, which helps young girls develop confidence in their
  ability to succeed in the areas of science, technology,
  engineering, and math; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Cardenas holds a bachelor's degree in
  interdisciplinary studies from Texas State University, a master's
  degree in Spanish language and culture from the University of
  Salamanca in Spain, and a master's degree in education
  administration from Lamar University; in 2012 she was a finalist
  for an H-E-B Excellence in Education award, and she was the Mitchell
  Elementary 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Zoila Cardenas exemplifies the qualities that are
  the hallmarks of a great teacher, and she has earned the respect and
  admiration of colleagues and students alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Zoila Cardenas on her selection as
  the 2014-2015 ESC Region 13 Elementary Teacher of the Year and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Cardenas as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
