R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Melissa McWherter of Liberty Hill Junior High School |
|
has been named VFW Teacher of the Year for District 28; and |
|
WHEREAS, A history teacher, Ms. McWherter coordinated a |
|
Veterans Day ceremony on the campus in 2013 to help students develop |
|
personal connections to the nation's past; the event grew even |
|
bigger the following year, involving the band and the yearbook |
|
staff, as well as the talents of students of art, theater, and |
|
history, among others; a celebration for the whole community, it |
|
proved so memorable that local VFW officials have asked to make it |
|
their official observance in subsequent years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. McWherter completed her bachelor's degree in |
|
history at Texas Tech University, and she holds a master's degree in |
|
education from Lamar University; she has 11 years of experience as |
|
an educator, and before joining Liberty Hill, she taught in the |
|
Lubbock, Leander, and Georgetown Independent School Districts; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her endeavors as organizer of the annual |
|
Veterans Day event at Liberty Hill Junior High School, Melissa |
|
McWherter has helped students develop a greater understanding of |
|
the sacrifices made by the men and women of our nation's military, |
|
and her contributions indeed merit special recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Melissa McWherter on her selection |
|
as VFW Teacher of the Year for District 28 and extend to her sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. McWherter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
