R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |
|
organizations like Volunteer McKinney, whose work in behalf of area |
|
citizens has contributed significantly to the quality of life in |
|
McKinney; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1998, Volunteer McKinney has been connecting |
|
area volunteers with nonprofit organizations so that they might |
|
work together to help the city become an even better place in which |
|
to live; through community events, such as McKinney Make a |
|
Difference and the Spirit of McKinney, and speaking engagements at |
|
schools, churches, fairs, and more, the group recruits over 7,800 |
|
volunteers each year and partners them with more than 90 nonprofit |
|
agencies in the North Texas region; and |
|
WHEREAS, During 2014, Volunteer McKinney leaders joined with |
|
the McKinney Police Department to produce a volunteer safety |
|
training program; they also delivered a presentation on the basics |
|
of volunteer management at the Texas Volunteer Management |
|
Conference and spoke at 58 events; the group provided volunteers |
|
for many occasions, including McKinney Oktoberfest, the Parade of |
|
Lights, and the Texas Trash-Off, and some of the numerous |
|
organizations that have received support are the American Red |
|
Cross, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County, the SPCA of Texas, |
|
the Heart of Gold Foundation, and the McKinney Public Library |
|
System; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past 17 years, Volunteer McKinney has made a |
|
positive difference in the lives of countless Texans, and it is |
|
indeed most fitting to recognize the organization for its |
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize April 1, 2015, as Volunteer McKinney |
|
Day at the State Capitol and commend all involved with the group for |
|
their service to Texas; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Volunteer McKinney as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
