R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Collin County Sheriff Terry Box will be retiring at
  the end of his current term in December 2016, drawing to a close a
  notable career as a peace officer that has spanned more than four
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, A native of McKinney, Terry Box first went to work in
  the field of law enforcement shortly after he graduated from high
  school, when he took a job as a police dispatcher at the age of 19;
  after he turned 21, he joined the force in Plano; and
         WHEREAS, Ten years later, officer Box was hired by the Collin
  County Sheriff's Office as a lieutenant, and in three years' time,
  he was promoted to deputy chief; in 1985, he was appointed to the
  top position when the previous sheriff passed away while in office,
  and the following year, he won a special election and has run
  unopposed in every election since; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his outstanding career, Sheriff Box has
  earned the admiration of his fellow citizens and officers alike for
  his low-key style, his kindness, and his respect for constitutional
  rights; he has also benefited his professional peers at the state
  level, serving as chair of the Commission on Jail Standards and as
  president of the Sheriffs' Association of Texas, which presented
  him with the Bill Decker Award in 2002; and
         WHEREAS, Sheriff Box has been a valued community leader as
  well, raising more than $2.1 million for Collin County charities
  with his Sheriff Box Shoot-Out Fore Kids Golf Tournament over the
  past two decades; for his many good works and deeds, the Collin
  County Children's Advocacy Center presented him with the 2010 Eagle
  Award, and the following year, the center named him one of the 20
  Heroes of Collin County; he has also received awards from the
  Wellness Center for Older Adults and the Collin College Student
  Leadership Academy; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sheriff Box has enjoyed the
  love and support of Rendy, his sweetheart since junior high school
  and his wife of more than 40 years; and
         WHEREAS, Sheriff Box's expertise, professionalism, and
  dedication to duty have greatly benefited the citizens of Collin
  County, and as he embarks on the final two years of his tenure in
  public office, he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well
  spent; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sheriff Terry Box on his upcoming
  retirement from Collin County and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sheriff Box as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
