R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Edinburg Rio Grande
  Valley is celebrating the organization's 45th anniversary in 2015;
  and
         WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1969, the Boys and Girls Clubs of
  Edinburg RGV is an agent of the City of Edinburg and an affiliate of
  the Boys and Girls Clubs of America; it serves nearly 20,000
  youngsters annually, including almost 8,000 registered members,
  providing them with places to learn, express creativity, develop
  social skills, and play sports; since 2006, the club has been guided
  by Sabrina Walker-Hernandez, who is only the third executive
  director in its history; and
         WHEREAS, The club today has 13 professionally staffed charter
  sites, including 9 school locations, a public housing site, and 3
  traditional neighborhood buildings; its Legacy Center opened in
  2011, providing members with a state-of-the-art flagship facility;
  and
         WHEREAS, In addition to their other services, the Boys and
  Girls Clubs place a special emphasis on helping youths reach their
  goals through education; since the late 1990s, the group has
  provided more than $1.4 million in college scholarships, and 92
  percent of its current members expect to pursue college studies;
  and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Boys and Girls Clubs of
  Edinburg Rio Grande Valley organization has helped improve the
  lives of countless area young people, encouraging academic
  achievement and nurturing the qualities necessary for them to make
  positive contributions in their community and beyond; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Boys and Girls Clubs of
  Edinburg Rio Grande Valley on the group's 45th anniversary and
  extend to all those associated with this noteworthy organization
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
