R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer and
  the second leading cause of cancer death among women, affecting
  more than 12 percent of females born in this nation; and
         WHEREAS, Breast cancer can spread quickly and inexplicably to
  vital organs, regardless of treatment or preventative measures; and
         WHEREAS, Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced stage
  of breast cancer, in which cancer has spread beyond the breast to
  other organs in the body; and
         WHEREAS, Thirty percent of women who have had early-stage
  breast cancer will eventually receive a diagnosis of metastatic
  breast cancer, after which the median survival rate is only about
  three years; and
         WHEREAS, Although there have been tremendous advancements in
  breast cancer treatment, there is a crucial need for continued
  research and for the development of more effective treatments for
  metastatic breast cancer; and
         WHEREAS, Statistics suggest that as many as 250,000 women and
  men in the United States are living with metastatic breast cancer,
  but many Americans know very little about the disease; and
         WHEREAS, Across the Lone Star State and around the country,
  the dedicated members of patient care support and treatment and
  advocacy groups are working to increase awareness, to provide
  patient navigation assistance, and to underscore the importance of
  medical research; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby express its support for raising awareness of
  metastatic breast cancer and for expanding research into its causes
  and the development of more effective treatments.
