R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Art of Leadership program is previewing its |
|
exhibition I See You at the State Capitol on March 10, 2015, and the |
|
show will be on display through the remainder of the 84th |
|
Legislative Session; and |
|
WHEREAS, Now in its fourth year, the Art of Leadership |
|
program recognizes community, civic, and business leaders who |
|
promote access to the arts for all Texans; the 2015 exhibit is |
|
honoring Texas Senator Rodney Ellis for his invaluable support of |
|
the project; and |
|
WHEREAS, A curated collection from the Esperson Gallery at |
|
GreenStreet in Houston, I See You is a unique mix of modern and |
|
traditional pieces by natives of the Lone Star State and |
|
individuals active in the Texas art scene; several of the artists |
|
represented in the show have Houston ties, including Kelley Devine, |
|
Mario Gonzalez "GONZO247" Figueroa Jr., Jennifer Hannaford, Robert |
|
Hodge, Taft McWhorter, and Steven Silverstein; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through a variety of media, these artists have |
|
portrayed the stories of leaders, some renowned and some |
|
overlooked, who fought for equality, justice, and human rights; |
|
among those portrayed in the exhibit are Rosa Parks and Nelson |
|
Mandela; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy exhibition celebrates individuals |
|
who have inspired others through their strength, vision, and |
|
commitment to social progress, and all those who helped bring this |
|
project to fruition are truly deserving of recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize the Art of Leadership I See You |
|
exhibit at the State Capitol and commend artists Kelley Devine, |
|
Mario Gonzalez Figueroa Jr., Jennifer Hannaford, Robert Hodge, Taft |
|
McWhorter, and Steven Silverstein for their participation; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Art of Leadership program as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
