R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Former Sergeant Antonio Cordova of Mission defended
  his nation with bravery and distinction during his 11 years in the
  U.S. Marine Corps, and he truly merits special recognition for his
  exemplary service; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Sergeant Cordova attended the
  University of North Texas before joining the marines in 1957; he was
  honorably discharged in 1963, but two years later, he reenlisted
  when his nation needed him during the Vietnam War; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Cordova joined the First Marine Aircraft
  Wing in Vietnam, where he flew more than 275 combat missions as a
  crew chief and a door gunner for Marine Helicopter Squadron
  HMM-363; in the course of this extremely dangerous duty, the
  sergeant was wounded once and survived three forced landings; and
         WHEREAS, Subsequently retrained for embassy duty, Sergeant
  Cordova served one year each at the U.S. embassies in Tunis,
  Tunisia, and Nairobi, Kenya; he was honorably discharged again in
  1970; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Sergeant Cordova
  continued to dedicate his life to protecting the public as a trooper
  and a narcotics officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety
  and as a member of the Organized Crime Division of the Texas
  Attorney General; he has also worked as a private investigator for
  the Hidalgo and Cameron County Bar Associations; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Cordova remains proud of his tenure in the
  U.S. Marines, and he is a former commander of Chapter 5077 of the
  Military Order of the Purple Heart and an active member of the
  Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
         WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to the
  men and women who take up arms in our defense; Sergeant Tony Cordova
  endured the hardships of war with courage and tenacity, and his
  efforts have helped to preserve the flame of freedom; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Antonio Cordova for his service
  in the U.S. Marine Corps and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sergeant Cordova as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
