R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache
  caused by the untimely death of Samantha Elizabeth Dean of the Kyle
  Police Department on February 4, 2015, at the age of 29; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Kelvin Dwane Dean and Kimberly Anne
  Dean, Samantha Dean was born in Nuremberg, Germany, on May 12, 1985;
  the family moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, when she was six, and later
  lived in Fort Drum, New York, before settling in San Antonio; as a
  student at Judson High School, she played varsity tennis and made
  many strong friendships with her teammates; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Dean went on to attend The University of
  Texas--San Antonio, where she was a proud member of Alpha Kappa
  Alpha; she was president of her chapter, and she volunteered
  tirelessly for children's organizations with her sorority sisters;
  diagnosed with a sarcoma in her elbow, she continued going to class
  every day during radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and she
  completed her bachelor's degree in liberal arts and public policy
  on time; she subsequently earned a master's degree in forensic
  psychology at John Jay University in New York; and
         WHEREAS, Determined to embark on a career protecting others,
  Ms. Dean wanted to become a police officer, but her bout with cancer
  had left her with a disability; she joined the Kyle Police
  Department as a civilian and became a victim services coordinator,
  helping abused women and children and those affected by violence; a
  talented professional with a warm and bubbly personality, she won
  the respect, admiration, and affection of her colleagues and
  members of the public, and she was instrumental in ensuring that all
  officers on patrol were trained to properly assist victims of
  domestic violence; and
         WHEREAS, This vibrant young woman was expecting the birth of
  a daughter, to be named Madeline; she was devoted to her family,
  including her little sister, Taylor; and
         WHEREAS, Although her passing has brought an immense loss to
  the community she served, those who were fortunate enough to know
  Samantha Dean will forever treasure their memories of her radiant
  smile and continue to find inspiration in her courage, kindness,
  and compassion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Samantha Elizabeth
  Dean and extend deepest condolences to the members of her family: to
  her father, Kelvin Dwane Dean; to her mother, Kimberly Anne Dean; to
  her sister, Taylor Alexandra Dean; and to her other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Samantha
  Dean.
