R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Jane Hamilton of Texas A&M
  University--Corpus Christi has been chosen to receive the 2015
  Georgia Regents University College of Nursing Phoebe Kandel Rohrer
  Distinguished Alumna and Presidential Alumna Awards; and
         WHEREAS, These two accolades are presented each year by the
  College of Nursing at Georgia Regents University to honor
  professional excellence and contributions to the profession; and
         WHEREAS, The founding dean of the College of Nursing and
  Health Sciences at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi,
  Dr. Hamilton earned her nursing degree from the Medical College of
  Georgia at Georgia Regents University in 1960; she went on to earn a
  master's degree in psychology at Texas A&M University--Kingsville
  in 1974 and a Ph.D. in nursing at Texas Woman's University in 1992;
  and
         WHEREAS, This distinguished educator has worked with nursing
  students in Corpus Christi since 1964, when she joined the faculty
  of the James R. Dougherty School of Nursing at Spohn Hospital; she
  went on to teach for 25 years at Del Mar College, and in 1993, she
  joined Texas A&M--Corpus Christi as a professor of nursing; she
  became the school's director of the College of Nursing and Health
  Sciences in 2002, and since 2004, she has served as dean of the
  college; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton has been active in such professional
  organizations as the American Nurses Association, the Texas Nurses
  Association, and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and she has
  found time to give back to her community as a board member of the
  Corpus Christi Medical Center, the Coastal Bend Wellness
  Foundation, and the Regional Health Awareness Board; and
         WHEREAS, The skill and commitment that Dr. Mary Jane Hamilton
  has brought to her many responsibilities have greatly benefited the
  people of Corpus Christi, and she is indeed deserving of these
  prestigious awards from her alma mater; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mary Jane Hamilton on her
  receipt of the 2015 Georgia Regents University College of Nursing
  Phoebe Kandel Rohrer Distinguished Alumna and Presidential Alumna
  Awards and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success
  and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Hamilton as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
