R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Cullen Corr of Irving has been named one of the top
  two youth volunteers in Texas by the 2015 Prudential Spirit of
  Community Awards program; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National
  Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community
  Awards has worked for two decades to honor young people in middle
  school and high school who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment
  to serving their communities; this year, more than 30,000 teens
  from across the nation were considered for recognition; and
         WHEREAS, A 16-year-old junior at Episcopal School of Dallas,
  Mr. Corr founded the nonprofit Kids Helping Kids organization to
  benefit children at Family Gateway, a local homeless shelter; when
  he was in the seventh grade, he started volunteering with his mother
  and worked to raise money and recruit other students in order to
  create a "teen room" at the center; this led to the formation of
  Kids Helping Kids, which helps support youths at the shelter by
  planning monthly events, hosting weekly tutoring sessions, and
  offering mentoring services; by organizing collection drives and
  fund-raisers, Kids Helping Kids has raised more than $50,000 since
  its inception three years ago, including over $20,000 that was used
  to purchase a 15-passenger van to enable children at Family Gateway
  to go on educational field trips; and
         WHEREAS, Cullen Corr has set an inspiring example of
  resourcefulness, generosity, and civic engagement, and he is to be
  commended for his exceptional efforts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Cullen Corr on his selection as one
  of the top two youth volunteers in Texas by the 2015 Prudential
  Spirit of Community Awards program and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Corr as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
