R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close when Violet E. Hames Law of Tye passed away on August 1,
  2014, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, The former Violet Hames was born in Belleview,
  Florida, on January 22, 1931, to Winters B. and Mary Eleanor Hames;
  she married Kennon Law on April 16, 1950, and the couple shared in
  the joy of raising four children, Kennon, Thomas, Carrie, and
  Kindra; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Tye, Mrs. Law served her
  community as city secretary, city councilwoman, and mayor during a
  time when few women held political office; she felt strongly that
  affordable housing should be made available to low-income families
  and that local youth should be encouraged to participate in
  politics; she worked for the improvement and beautification of Tye,
  and for many years the family also owned and operated a business
  there; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Law was a faithful member of Tye Baptist
  Church; in her leisure time, she enjoyed tending roses in her
  garden, bird-watching, fishing, traveling, and writing poetry, and
  she was also an ardent fan of the Texas Rangers; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to her family and dedicated to her
  community, Violet Law will be deeply missed, and the generosity,
  love, and pioneering spirit she demonstrated throughout her life
  will forever inspire all those who had the good fortune to know her;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Violet E. Hames Law
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  sons, Kennon Law Jr. and his wife, Janet, and Thomas M. Law and his
  wife, Sherreta; to her daughters, Carrie Copeland and her husband,
  David, and Kindra Smith and her husband, Kenneth; to her brothers,
  Donald, Gene, Dean, and Peek Hames; to her sister, Mary Ann
  McIntyre; to her 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and
  to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Violet E.
  Hames Law.
