R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Libby Averyt of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times has
  been promoted to vice president regional publisher of the Journal
  Media Group, and this occasion is a fitting opportunity to
  celebrate her outstanding three-decade career in journalism; and
         WHEREAS, After writing for her high school newspaper in
  Houston, Ms. Averyt earned her bachelor's degree in journalism in
  1986 at The University of Texas at Austin, where she won a national
  college reportin
  g award for her work on the Daily Texan; later in
  life, she continued her education at Texas A&M University-Corpus
  Christi, earning a master's degree in communication in 2012; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Averyt joined the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
  in 1986 as a night police reporter, and over the years she has risen
  steadily through the ranks, becoming the paper's managing editor in
  2000 and its editor in 2003; she went on to oversee the paper's
  digital efforts as vice president and online general manager and
  then served as vice president for advertising; in January 2014, she
  became the paper's publisher and chief revenue officer; and
         WHEREAS, That same year, Journal Communications and
  E. W. Scripps, the parent company of the Caller-Times, announced
  their intention to merge their broadcast operations and newspaper
  holdings into a new company, the Journal Media Group; in her new
  role, Ms. Averyt will be one of four vice president regional
  publishers of the group, with responsibility for the Caller-Times
  as well as operations in Abilene, San Angelo, and Wichita Falls; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Averyt has enjoyed the
  love and support of her husband, Charles Kaffie Jr., and their five
  children, Grace, Avery, William, Lauren, and Charles; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Averyt's dedication, professionalism, and
  integrity have greatly benefited the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
  and earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow
  journalists, and as she takes on the challenges and opportunities
  of her new position, she may indeed reflect with pride on her record
  of accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Libby Averyt on her promotion to
  vice president regional publisher of the Journal Media Group and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Averyt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
