R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Elvis Hernandez, a longtime coach and administrator
  in the Rio Grande Valley, passed away on February 22, 2015, at the
  age of 53, leaving behind a host of admirers to reflect on a legacy
  rich in meaningful accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, Born on February 10, 1962, to Efraim and Carmen
  Hernandez, Elvis Hernandez graduated in 1980 from Saint Joseph
  Academy in Brownsville, where he was a member of the 1977 state
  championship football team; he later attended The University of
  Texas--Pan American, earning a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and
  a minor in biology; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan began his notable career in
  education and athletics at Rivera High School, where he coached
  several sub-varsity teams to district championships; Coach
  Hernandez then returned to his alma mater in 1993, serving as the
  head football coach and athletic director at Saint Joseph and
  leading the Bloodhounds to the state playoffs on several occasions;
  he next spent four years at Santa Rosa High School, where he also
  led teams to the playoffs, and from 2004 to 2012 he ran the athletic
  department and coached the football team at Progreso High School,
  greatly adding to the squad's record of achievement; and
         WHEREAS, Widely respected within his profession, Coach
  Hernandez frequently offered his help and sage advice to fellow
  coaches in the Rio Grande Valley; moreover, he gave freely of his
  time and energy as a mentor for countless young athletes and
  students over the years, emphasizing the importance of discipline
  and attention to detail in leading a productive life in adulthood;
  and
         WHEREAS, Elvis Hernandez especially cherished his role as a
  husband and parent; he enjoyed the love and support of his college
  sweetheart, Norma, with whom he shared more than three decades of
  marriage, and he was a devoted father to his two daughters, Sheila
  and Amanda; in his leisure time, he delighted in spending time
  outside, fishing and barbecuing; and
         WHEREAS, Elvis Hernandez lived a generous life dedicated to
  his work, his community, and his family, and he will be fondly
  remembered for his positive and caring nature by all those who were
  privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Elvis Hernandez and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Norma Hernandez; to his daughters, Sheila and Amanda
  Hernandez; to his mother, Carmen Hernandez; to his siblings and
  their spouses, Sonia Hernandez-Keeble and her husband, Leon,
  Yolanda Kruger and her husband, Gerald, and Jerry Delgado and his
  wife, Norma; and to his other relatives, friends, and many former
  students; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elvis
  Hernandez.
