R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For 70 years, families have come together to |
|
celebrate their faith at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Crane; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mount Zion Baptist has served as a spiritual home |
|
for many members of the Crane community since its establishment by |
|
the Reverend T. J. Hollis in February 1945; this notable |
|
institution has provided a setting for important rites of passage |
|
in the lives of area residents, and it is there that congregants |
|
have taken their wedding vows, baptized their children, and mourned |
|
those loved ones who have come to the end of their journey; it is |
|
there, too, that worshippers search for the essential truths and |
|
wisdom that may help them to lead more ethical, harmonious, and |
|
compassionate lives; the church also supports programs that enable |
|
its members to reach out to those in need and to put into action the |
|
tenets of their faith; and |
|
WHEREAS, While Mount Zion Baptist Church has undergone |
|
numerous changes through the years to accommodate the evolving |
|
needs of the congregation, it remains a constant and enduring |
|
presence in Crane, and many who have worshipped there have |
|
experienced a renewal of their faith and the welcoming embrace of a |
|
caring community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate all those affiliated with Mount |
|
Zion Baptist Church on the 70th anniversary of the church's |
|
founding and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
