R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Cecil Earnestine Anderson of Dallas on February 15, |
|
2015, at the age of 106; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1908 in Cameron, Cecil Anderson attended |
|
Paul Quinn College after high school, completed her bachelor's |
|
degree at Huston-Tillotson College, received her master's degree |
|
from Prairie View A&M University, and pursued postgraduate studies |
|
at Texas A&M University; in 2013 she was awarded an honorary |
|
doctorate of humane letters by Paul Quinn College and was |
|
recognized as the school's oldest living graduate; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson enjoyed a long and rewarding career in |
|
education, teaching in the Cameron Independent School District for |
|
more than four decades until her retirement in 1975; upon leaving |
|
the classroom, Mrs. Anderson moved to the Dallas area and became |
|
actively involved with a number of worthwhile community |
|
organizations; she was a longtime precinct chair in South Dallas, |
|
and she frequently volunteered her time and talents to the March of |
|
Dimes and the Boy Scouts of America; and |
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal |
|
Church, Mrs. Anderson was a valued congregant at Smith Chapel AME |
|
Church in Dallas for many years; she held a number of important |
|
leadership roles within the church, including steward, missionary, |
|
and Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher; in her leisure |
|
time, she took great pleasure in traveling, cooking, and visiting |
|
with family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson was blessed with the love and support |
|
of her husband, the late Luther Anderson, and she was the proud |
|
mother of two children, Jacqueline and Kelly; with the passing |
|
years, she experienced the joy of seeing her family grow to include |
|
three additional generations; and |
|
WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Cecil Anderson |
|
made a positive difference in the lives of innumerable people as an |
|
educator, civic leader, and role model, and all those who were |
|
fortunate enough to know her will forever treasure their memories |
|
of her kindness and devotion; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil Earnestine |
|
Anderson and extend sincere condolences to her many loved ones; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil |
|
Anderson. |
