R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Playing with exemplary skill and dedication, the |
|
|
girls' basketball team of Lumberton High School enjoyed an |
|
|
outstanding 2014-2015 season that saw it advance to the regional |
|
|
semifinals of the University Interscholastic League 5A state |
|
|
playoffs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lady Raiders combined an aggressive defense with |
|
|
precision shooting to compile an impressive overall record of 30 |
|
|
wins and just 6 defeats; the team proved itself one of the top teams |
|
|
in District 22-5A during regular season play, finishing as the |
|
|
league's runner-up and clinching a berth in the postseason; |
|
|
Lumberton began its exciting playoff run against Crosby High |
|
|
School, edging out its opponent 55-52 in a closely played game; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Matching up against Calhoun High School in the |
|
|
ensuing round, the team survived a tough test to secure the area |
|
|
championship and earn a trip to the regional quarterfinals to take |
|
|
on the squad from Galveston Ball High School; in that contest, the |
|
|
Lady Raiders put on a clinic from behind the arc, hitting 18 |
|
|
three-point shots to record a dominating 89-68 victory; in the |
|
|
regional semifinal, Lumberton players took an early lead on College |
|
|
Station A&M Consolidated High School, but saw their season come to |
|
|
an end in a hard-fought loss; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Lady Raiders |
|
|
received valuable contributions from each member of the roster over |
|
|
the course of the season; these dedicated athletes were guided by |
|
|
head coach Ricky Jacks and his staff, whose leadership and |
|
|
expertise helped inspire the squad to play to its full potential; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lumberton High School Lady Raiders have gained |
|
|
the admiration of their fellow students and their many supporters |
|
|
in the community, and their performance on the court is indeed |
|
|
deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Lumberton High School girls' |
|
|
basketball team on its success during the 2014-2015 season and |
|
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
