R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center in Socorro |
|
|
serves as a valuable resource that provides area residents with |
|
|
improved opportunities to take part in fitness activities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Opened by the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo in 2001, the |
|
|
Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center encompasses more than 100,000 |
|
|
square feet of space and includes an Olympic-size pool, weights and |
|
|
fitness equipment, and racquetball, basketball, tennis, and |
|
|
volleyball courts; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Access to the center was originally limited to the |
|
|
members of the pueblo, but since 2014, it has served the general |
|
|
public as well; this development has greatly benefited individuals |
|
|
in the Lower Valley, which has a shortage of recreational |
|
|
facilities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Exercise is a vital component of a healthy |
|
|
lifestyle, and by enabling more people to take advantage of its |
|
|
facilities, the Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center is making a |
|
|
valuable contribution to its community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize the Tigua Recreation and Wellness |
|
|
Center for the role it plays in encouraging healthy physical |
|
|
activity and commend its management and staff for their efforts; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
