R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Texas colleges and universities contribute
  immeasurably to the future of the Lone Star State, and those
  professionals who give generously of their expertise to these vital
  institutions of higher education are indeed deserving of
  recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Kathleen Staudt has been a member of the faculty
  at The University of Texas at El Paso since 1977; during her nearly
  four decades at the school, she has taught and researched a wide
  range of subjects, including immigration, borders, public policy,
  and women and politics; moreover, she served as director of the UTEP
  Center for Civic Engagement from 1998 to 2008; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding educator is a leading scholar on
  social justice issues affecting women along the United
  States-Mexico border, and she has authored or edited nine books
  that focus on the experiences of women in the region; recognized for
  her important work, she is the recipient of the UT System
  Chancellor's Award for Innovation in Teaching as well as the Border
  Heroes award from the Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Kathleen Staudt has greatly benefited the
  students of The University of Texas at El Paso, and in so doing, she
  has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of countless people
  along the way; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Kathleen Staudt for her service as a
  professor at The University of Texas at El Paso and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Staudt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
