R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Xavier De La Torre can take well-deserved pride |
|
in the outstanding service he has rendered to the residents of his |
|
community during his first 10 months as superintendent of the |
|
Ysleta Independent School District; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. De La Torre began his outstanding educational |
|
career as a teacher, coach, and principal in California, garnering |
|
awards as coach and teacher of the year, and he went on to serve as |
|
an associate superintendent of human resources for two California |
|
districts; in Texas, he served for three years as superintendent of |
|
Socorro ISD, where he helped the district's schools secure |
|
recognized and exemplary ratings from the Texas Education Agency; |
|
he returned to California to serve as county superintendent of |
|
schools in Santa Clara before becoming the Ysleta ISD |
|
superintendent in March 2014; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of California State University, Chico, |
|
Dr. De La Torre earned his master's degree from the University of |
|
San Francisco and his doctorate from the University of California, |
|
Davis; his dissertation received the Edgar L. Morphet Award from |
|
the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration in |
|
2005, and he has advocated for biliteracy and bilingualism as |
|
co-chair of the annual National Association of Bilingual Education |
|
conference in San Diego; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his unwavering commitment to Ysleta ISD |
|
students and staff, Dr. De La Torre has led the way in fostering a |
|
supportive and challenging educational environment, one that gives |
|
students a vision of what they might attain if they strive for |
|
success and that equips them with skills that will help them to |
|
build fulfilling and productive lives; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Dr. Xavier De La Torre, superintendent of |
|
the Ysleta Independent School District, for his admirable service |
|
to his fellow citizens and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. De La Torre as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
