R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For
  170 years, families have come together to
  celebrate their faith at First Protestant Church of New Braunfels;
  and
         WHEREAS, This historic church was organized to serve
  Protestant worshippers among the German immigrants who settled New
  Braunfels under the auspices of the Adelsverein; the initial
  services were held in December 1844 under the leadership of the
  Reverend Louis C. Ervendberg, who had been asked to pastor the
  church by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels before the first settlers
  ever arrived on the banks of the Comal; the church incorporated in
  October 1845, becoming the first congregation in the community; and
         WHEREAS, The original church building was a cedar log
  structure; in 1875, the cornerstone was laid for the present-day
  building, which over the years has been expanded and improved; the
  tower was added in 1889, and in 1955, the chancel and chapel were
  enlarged; First Protestant Church is a Recorded Texas Historic
  Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places;
  and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, the congregation has benefited
  from the guidance of many dedicated pastors, and today it is ably
  led by the Reverend Daryl Higgins, its senior minister; and
         WHEREAS, First Protestant Church has long served as a source
  of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its
  continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of
  its members, both past and present; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 170th anniversary of First
  Protestant Church of New Braunfels and extend to the congregation
  and its clergy sincere best wishes for many more years of shared
  prayer and fellowship; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for First Protestant Church of New Braunfels as an
  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
