R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |
|
the loss of U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Quinton Calvin, who |
|
passed away on January 11, 2015, at the age of 37; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on November 16, 1977, Michael Calvin was the |
|
son of Willie and Elvira Calvin and grew up with the companionship |
|
of his brother, Christopher; during his years at Thorndale High |
|
School, he was a member of the track and basketball teams and helped |
|
the Bulldogs become state champions in football; answering his |
|
nation's call to duty, this brave Texan joined the Marine Corps in |
|
March 1999, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned |
|
more than 15 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sergeant Calvin served two tours of duty in Iraq, |
|
during which time he impressed his superiors with his exceptional |
|
work ethic and his determination to complete every task to the best |
|
of his ability; he was assigned as a communications chief for an |
|
entire tank company and as a battalion communications platoon |
|
sergeant, and his exemplary service earned him the Navy and Marine |
|
Corps Commendation Medal along with numerous other service honors; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Sergeant Calvin |
|
cherished the time he spent with his wife, Amanda, and his two |
|
daughters, Megan and Maysa, and he loved to talk about them during |
|
those times when his duties took him away from home; he was a |
|
passionate fan of The University of Texas sports teams, and |
|
although he left the Lone Star State to settle in Richlands, North |
|
Carolina, he seldom missed a chance to root for the Longhorns on |
|
game days; and |
|
WHEREAS, While his years on this earth were far too few, |
|
Michael Calvin nevertheless achieved a life that was rich in |
|
family, friends, and meaningful accomplishments, and his valiant |
|
service to his fellow citizens and the joy that he shared with |
|
others will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Staff Sergeant |
|
Michael Quinton Calvin and extend heartfelt condolences to the |
|
members of his family: to his wife, Amanda Calvin; to his daughters, |
|
Megan and Maysa Calvin; to his parents, Willie and Elvira Calvin; to |
|
his brother, Christopher Calvin; and to his other relatives and |
|
many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant |
|
Calvin. |
