R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the loss of U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Quinton Calvin, who
  passed away on January 11, 2015, at the age of 37; and
         WHEREAS, Born on November 16, 1977, Michael Calvin was the
  son of Willie and Elvira Calvin and grew up with the companionship
  of his brother, Christopher; during his years at Thorndale High
  School, he was a member of the track and basketball teams and helped
  the Bulldogs become state champions in football; answering his
  nation's call to duty, this brave Texan joined the Marine Corps in
  March 1999, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned
  more than 15 years; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Calvin served two tours of duty in Iraq,
  during which time he impressed his superiors with his exceptional
  work ethic and his determination to complete every task to the best
  of his ability; he was assigned as a communications chief for an
  entire tank company and as a battalion communications platoon
  sergeant, and his exemplary service earned him the Navy and Marine
  Corps Commendation Medal along with numerous other service honors;
  and
         WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Sergeant Calvin
  cherished the time he spent with his wife, Amanda, and his two
  daughters, Megan and Maysa, and he loved to talk about them during
  those times when his duties took him away from home; he was a
  passionate fan of The University of Texas sports teams, and
  although he left the Lone Star State to settle in Richlands, North
  Carolina, he seldom missed a chance to root for the Longhorns on
  game days; and
         WHEREAS, While his years on this earth were far too few,
  Michael Calvin nevertheless achieved a life that was rich in
  family, friends, and meaningful accomplishments, and his valiant
  service to his fellow citizens and the joy that he shared with
  others will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Staff Sergeant
  Michael Quinton Calvin and extend heartfelt condolences to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Amanda Calvin; to his daughters,
  Megan and Maysa Calvin; to his parents, Willie and Elvira Calvin; to
  his brother, Christopher Calvin; and to his other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
  Calvin.
