R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Officer David Martinez of the Brookshire Police
  Department demonstrated great composure and courage on February 7,
  2015, when he thwarted a bank robbery in progress; and
         WHEREAS, A two-year veteran of the police department, Officer
  Martinez was off duty working as a security guard at First Services
  Credit Union that afternoon when a man wearing a disguise and
  brandishing a handgun came into the lobby and forced everyone,
  including Officer Martinez, to lie down on the floor; and
         WHEREAS, The suspect took the officer's weapon, forced a
  teller to give him cash, and fled the building; Officer Martinez
  retrieved his backup weapon and, at considerable risk to himself,
  followed the man; during a confrontation in the parking lot,
  Officer Martinez shot the suspect; and
         WHEREAS, Officer Martinez's quick and decisive actions
  helped to avert what could have been an even greater tragedy, and he
  is truly deserving of special recognition for his bravery and
  dedication to protecting the public; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Officer David Martinez of the Brookshire
  Police Department for his heroism and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Officer Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
