R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Javier Loera has served the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo |
|
with distinction as war captain since December 31, 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his role as war captain, one of two traditional |
|
lifetime positions with the tribal council, Mr. Loera has oversight |
|
of planning for days of observance and hunts, as well as all other |
|
traditional activities; he is acknowledged as a spiritual leader, |
|
and he has taken a lead role in the restoration of the Pueblo's |
|
language, Tigua; in addition, he is guiding the construction of a |
|
traditional kiva; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Loera served on the council as first captain |
|
from 2002-2008; he is employed by the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo as the |
|
tribal historic preservation officer, and he works diligently to |
|
promote and protect cultural resources and manage all related |
|
matters; in addition, he consults with federal and state agencies |
|
regarding historic preservation and cultural resources; |
|
previously, he managed the Tigua Indian Cultural Center and Museum; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In his leisure, Mr. Loera devotes himself to |
|
traditional arts, and he creates pottery and beadwork; moreover, he |
|
was a key participant in a group that produced vibrant murals of |
|
Tiguan imagery in the tribe's ceremonial building, the Tuh-Lah, and |
|
the Ysleta Mission; and |
|
WHEREAS, Javier Loera has demonstrated a deep commitment to |
|
preserving the Tigua way of life, and his endeavors have helped |
|
ensure that future generations can continue to be enriched by this |
|
magnificent heritage; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Javier Loera for his service as war |
|
captain of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Loera as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
