R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas Kreneck received a Premio Estrella de
  Aztlán Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association for
  Chicana and Chicano Studies, Tejas Foco, at the group's annual
  conference in February 2015, in recognition of outstanding work
  that has spanned more than a quarter-century; and
         WHEREAS, Formed in 1972, the NACCS serves academic programs,
  departments, and research centers that focus on issues of
  importance to Mexican Americans, Chicanos, and Latinos; each year
  at the Tejas Foco Conference, the organization presents literary
  awards to deserving individuals across a variety of categories,
  including cultural arts, social justice and services, political
  engagement, and publications; Dr. Kreneck has been involved with
  the NACCS since the late 1970s; and
         WHEREAS, During a tenure of more than a decade at the Houston
  Metropolitan Research Center, Dr. Kreneck originated and built the
  center's Mexican American archival component; he joined Texas A&M
  University--Corpus Christi in 1990 to curate the papers of
  Dr. Hector P. Garcia, founder of the American GI Forum, and as Bell
  Library associate director for Special Collections and Archives, he
  greatly expanded the number of books and manuscripts assembled in
  his department; he also served the university as Joe B. Frantz
  Lecturer in Public History before his retirement in 2012; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Kreneck is
  the author of two books, Mexican American Odyssey: Felix Tijerina,
  Entrepreneur and Civic Leader, 1905-1965, and Del Pueblo: A History
  of Houston's Hispanic Community; he has published a number of
  scholarly articles, as well, and edited other works focused on
  Mexican American and Texas history; Dr. Kreneck is a charter member
  of the Academy of Certified Archivists and a Fellow of the Texas
  State Historical Association; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Thomas Kreneck has
  significantly added to the knowledge of Chicano history and culture
  in Texas, and he has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues
  and fellow citizens alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Thomas Kreneck on receiving a
  Premio Estrella de Aztlán Lifetime Achievement Award and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Kreneck as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
