R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Roy Newton Smith of the Corpus Christi |
|
Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on April 20, |
|
1953, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 21-year-old who had recently been sworn in as an |
|
officer, Roy Smith was responding to a call when he was involved in |
|
a tragic vehicle collision; he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean |
|
War, and at the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, |
|
Laverne, and his daughter, Gail; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
Officer Smith, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |
|
day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
Officer Roy Newton Smith of the Corpus Christi Police Department. |
