R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer John W. Sartain of the Corpus Christi Police |
|
|
Department lost his life in the line of duty on August 20, 1971, and |
|
|
his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While walking to his squad car to begin a patrol |
|
|
shift with his partner, Officer Sartain was shot outside the police |
|
|
station; he died the following day at a local hospital; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Officer Sartain was |
|
|
survived by a wife and daughter; this dedicated public servant was |
|
|
honored in the community he so ably served with a street that was |
|
|
renamed in his memory; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
|
Officer Sartain, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |
|
|
day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
|
Officer John W. Sartain of the Corpus Christi Police Department. |
