R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi |
|
|
Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on March 11, |
|
|
2009, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On that day, a routine traffic stop turned violent |
|
|
when the driver assaulted the officer who had stopped him and fled |
|
|
in his vehicle; in an effort to stop the driver with road spikes, |
|
|
Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the shoulder of the |
|
|
highway some distance ahead, but the driver swerved and fatally |
|
|
struck him; at the time of his death, Lieutenant Alexander was 47 |
|
|
years old and a 20-year veteran of the department; he left behind |
|
|
his wife, his son, and three grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
|
Lieutenant Alexander, who willingly put themselves in harm's way |
|
|
each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow |
|
|
citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
|
Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander of the Corpus Christi Police |
|
|
Department. |
