R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Luther B. Prather of the Corpus Christi |
|
Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on September 14, |
|
1919, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1886, Officer Prather joined the department |
|
in 1914; during the hurricane of 1919, he heroically crossed the |
|
Rincon Channel several times in order to bring citizens to safety at |
|
the Nueces County Courthouse, even harboring several storm victims |
|
at his own home; while crossing the channel one last time in order |
|
to save a child and several adults, he and the other passengers in |
|
his boat were swept into the rising water and lost; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
Officer Prather, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |
|
day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
Officer Luther B. Prather of the Corpus Christi Police Department. |
