R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi celebrated its
  100th anniversary in June 2014; and
         WHEREAS, The 125th Rotary Club to be chartered worldwide, the
  Corpus Christi chapter was established in 1914 with 36 founding
  members; and
         WHEREAS, Its mission is to create a meaningful fellowship of
  business and professional leaders who are dedicated to making a
  positive difference in their community through service, and over
  the last 100 years, members have left a lasting legacy in Corpus
  Christi; and
         WHEREAS, Rotarians have volunteered innumerable hours and
  provided untold resources to programs benefiting the community;
  such worthwhile projects include conducting vaccination clinics,
  assisting with the placement of children through their Adoption
  Awareness Picnic, contributing to the Salvation Army's Red Kettle
  campaign, and providing grant funds of more than $650,000 for
  preservation projects through the Harvey Weil Sportsman
  Conservationist program; the club commissioned the "Queen of the
  Sea" sculpture in the downtown area and installed a town clock in
  Heritage Park; and
         WHEREAS, The group also demonstrates a commitment to
  promoting excellence in education, and it has funded scholarships
  at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Del Mar College;
  moreover, it has recognized the achievements of top area high
  school students and provided leadership training to young adults in
  South Texas with its Rotary Youth Leadership Award Program; and
         WHEREAS, On the international front, the club has helped
  people in Mexico, Fiji, and Honduras through a number of health,
  housing, and literacy initiatives and has contributed to Rotary's
  PolioPlus program, which works to eradicate polio; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the Rotary
  tradition, the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi has greatly enhanced
  the lives of countless people throughout its century-long history,
  and this significant milestone provides a fitting opportunity to
  recognize it; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
  on its 100th anniversary and honor its members, past and present,
  for their exceptional service; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
