R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de Corpus Christi
  is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its founding in 2016; and
         WHEREAS, The organization was formally established on
  October 12, 1976, when Juan Jose Gussoni, Sergio Villarreal,
  Dr. Efren Suris, Dr. Jose E. Antoni, Evaristo Tercilla, and other
  members of the Hispanic community met at the home of Dr. Marc
  Eugenio with the goal to create an organization to promote and
  propagate Hispanic culture in Corpus Christi; Mr. Tercilla was
  elected as the group's first president, and Dr. Eugenio was
  appointed president of the board; and
         WHEREAS, Since that time, this nonprofit cultural
  organization has upheld its mission to foster greater understanding
  of the different Hispanic nationalities represented in Corpus
  Christi, and the value that they bring to the community; striving to
  cultivate an atmosphere of goodwill and friendship, members
  encourage cultural exchange and collaborate with educational
  institutions and other entities to sponsor an assortment of
  lectures and festive performances; the organization also awards
  college scholarships to deserving area high school seniors who
  support its goals; and
         WHEREAS, The Instituto de Cultura Hispánica occupies the
  Lichtenstein House in Heritage Park, a building constructed in 1905
  that is listed as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and in the
  National Register of Historic Places; members operate a museum in
  the building that offers art exhibits, folkloric displays, English
  and Spanish recitals, and cultural celebrations, along with
  artifacts from a diversity of Hispanic countries; and
         WHEREAS, For four decades, the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica
  de Corpus Christi has served as an invaluable area resource, and its
  members may take pride in the role they have played in strengthening
  the cultural fabric of their community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de
  Corpus Christi on its 40th anniversary and extend to all those
  associated with the group sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
