R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Brown of West University Place was
  presented with the George T. Caldwell Award by the Texas Society of
  Pathologists at the organization's annual meeting on January 24,
  2015; and
         WHEREAS, Named in honor of the venerated pathologist
  Dr. George T. Caldwell, this prestigious accolade was established
  in 1954 to annually recognize excellence in service and teaching in
  the field of pathology; and
         WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Dr. Brown is a notable
  alumnus of Trinity University, where he received the McGavock Award
  for Outstanding Research for his undergraduate work in organic
  synthesis and where he graduated summa cum laude with bachelor's
  degrees in chemistry and music in 1981 and subsequently with a
  master's degree in organ performance; he went on to earn his
  M.D. from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
  Antonio, and during the course of his studies there, he was honored
  with the Carl Kline Award and the A. O. Severance Award; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Dr. Brown enjoys a fulfilling career in
  Houston as president of Memorial Pathology Consultants as well as
  medical director of both system laboratory services and the core
  laboratory at Memorial Hermann, the largest nonprofit health system
  in the area; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has further distinguished
  himself through his community involvement; he has actively served
  St. Mark's Episcopal Church and School as president of the school
  board and as a member of the Visioning and Building Discernment
  Committees, as well as a choir member and a certified lay reader,
  and his exceptional efforts were recognized with the inscription of
  his name at the base of the church's altar cross; moreover, he is a
  staunch advocate for the arts in Houston, where he supports the
  Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and the Houston Grand Opera;
  and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Brown is blessed with
  the love and support of his wife, Laura Brown, and he takes
  tremendous pride in their son, Matthew; and
         WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of his profession,
  Dr. Richard Brown has garnered the lasting respect and admiration
  of his colleagues, and he may take justifiable pride in this stellar
  achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Richard Brown on his receipt of
  the 2015 Dr. George T. Caldwell Award from the Texas Society of
  Pathologists and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
