R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The City of Pflugerville is celebrating the 50th
  anniversary of its incorporation in 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Named for Henry Pfluger, a German immigrant who
  settled in the area with his family in 1853, Pflugerville grew up
  around a store and post office established by William Bohls in 1860;
  a small rural community for many years, the town began to see its
  population climb in the 1960s, and on July 24, 1965, residents voted
  in favor of incorporation; Pflugerville continued to develop, with
  the pace picking up rapidly in the 1980s; over the past 50 years,
  the number of inhabitants has risen from 456 to some 54,000, and the
  city has expanded from three-tenths of a square mile to nearly 23
  square miles; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Pflugerville's vibrant downtown business
  district attracts visitors with its small-town charm,
  pedestrian-friendly character, and a variety of yearly events; the
  Heritage House Museum promotes and preserves the city's rich
  history, while the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation
  works to advance the town's prosperity; and
         WHEREAS, Lake Pflugerville was built as a reservoir and has
  since become a popular attraction for outdoor enthusiasts, offering
  opportunities for fishing, swimming, jogging, canoeing, and
  windsurfing; residents also enjoy the city's numerous parks,
  trails, and recreational facilities; and
         WHEREAS, In celebration of the 50th anniversary of its
  incorporation, the City of Pflugerville has planned a number of
  events, including a historic photo display during the Spring Pfling
  in March, a Pfirecracker Pfestival in July, and a special library
  book club reading of popular selections from 1965; on July 24 the
  city is hosting the Pflugerville Pfiftieth Birthday Party at
  Pfluger Park, complete with live music, a 1965-era car show,
  birthday cake, and more; and
         WHEREAS, Honoring their past as they work to build a bright
  future, the citizens of Pflugerville may indeed take great pride in
  their hometown as they celebrate this significant milestone; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the City of Pflugerville on the
  50th anniversary of its incorporation and extend to its residents
  sincere best wishes for a memorable year of festivities.
