R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Singer and songwriter Craig Wayne Boyd, who became a
  fan favorite for his singing and musical versatility, won Season 7
  of the popular television show The Voice on December 16, 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Mesquite, Mr. Boyd grew up
  singing gospel and country music and learning a variety of
  instruments; he was also active in his church, serving as the
  congregation's choir director; in 2004, this talented young
  musician moved to Nashville to pursue a professional career,
  working as a songwriter, releasing two independent albums, and
  touring with other performers; and
         WHEREAS, After auditioning for The Voice with the Travis
  Tritt and Marty Stuart song "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'," Mr. Boyd
  continued to impress the judges and the viewing public with
  standout renditions of such songs as the soul standard "Some Kind of
  Wonderful," the Eagles' "Take It Easy," and Merle Haggard's "Workin'
  Man Blues"; and
         WHEREAS, Performing on Blake Shelton's team, Mr. Boyd
  finally took top honors in the competition with three songs,
  including his own composition "My Baby's Got a Smile on Her Face";
  his performance of that song, along with his renditions of Johnny
  Cash's "I Walk the Line" and the hymn "The Old Rugged Cross," placed
  among the Top 10 on iTunes; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd's victory has won him a major-label
  contract with Dot Records, and his career will reach new heights as
  a special guest of country superstars Rascal Flatts during their
  residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas during
  February and March 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Craig Wayne Boyd's talent, creativity, and hard work
  have brought him into the national spotlight, and he may indeed take
  great pride in this achievement as he looks forward to a bright
  future as a performing artist; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Craig Wayne Boyd for his victory on
  The Voice and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Boyd as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
