R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Lucille Rochs is a beloved citizen of Fredericksburg |
|
who has earned the respect and admiration of all who know her for |
|
her many years of dedicated service to the Fredericksburg and |
|
Gillespie County communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Sabinal in 1915, Mrs. Rochs earned her |
|
bachelor's degree at Texas State University and her master's degree |
|
in education at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio; she |
|
went on to enjoy a teaching career in San Antonio, working in the |
|
Edgewood and Northside Independent School Districts and also served |
|
as a higher education instructor at San Antonio College and Sul Ross |
|
State University; and |
|
WHEREAS, On her retirement in the 1970s, Mrs. Rochs moved to |
|
Fredericksburg, where she immersed herself in a multitude of |
|
projects benefiting the community; she helped form the Gillespie |
|
County Child Welfare Board and the Hill Country Community Needs |
|
Council, and she has worked tirelessly through the years to raise |
|
money for the Something From the Heart campaign that benefits the |
|
Needs Council; in addition, she became the first female chair of the |
|
Hill Country Memorial Hospital Board and served the board for a |
|
total of 18 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, At age 76, this dynamic woman won election to the |
|
first of her two consecutive four-year terms on the city council; |
|
she has continued to be a force in civic affairs, and her |
|
contributions include helping the Hill Country University Center, |
|
an institution founded in 2002, to build key academic partnerships |
|
with Texas Tech University and Austin Community College; more |
|
recently, she has served as the treasurer for the foundation |
|
benefiting the Golden Hub Senior Center, which she played a role in |
|
establishing some three decades ago; and |
|
WHEREAS, Her passion, tenacity, and commitment to serving her |
|
fellow residents have made Lucille Rochs an inspiration to all who |
|
know her, and she may indeed reflect with pride on the many ways she |
|
has enhanced the quality of life in the area she calls home; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Lucille Rochs for her civic engagement |
|
and her long-standing dedication to Fredericksburg and Gillespie |
|
County and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Rochs as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
