R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, David G. Hinojosa is stepping down as Southwest |
|
regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and |
|
Educational Fund in 2015, after an outstanding tenure of more than a |
|
decade with that organization; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since joining MALDEF in 2003, Mr. Hinojosa has |
|
gained recognition as one of its most effective litigators, |
|
particularly in the area of education; he has worked on issues |
|
related to public school finance, the provision of adequate |
|
education for low-income, special education, and English Learner |
|
students, and the equitable and inclusive treatment of public |
|
schoolchildren; he has also sought to protect access to higher |
|
education and to defend the rights of workers and military |
|
veterans; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney has provided expert |
|
testimony to local and state governmental bodies, and he has |
|
contributed chapters on the subject of school finance to two books, |
|
one of which is forthcoming from Harvard Education Press; in |
|
addition, he has presented at more than 75 local, state, and |
|
national conferences, lectured at universities and law schools |
|
around the country, and participated in numerous roundtables; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Hinojosa earned his |
|
bachelor's degree with honors from New Mexico State University and |
|
his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law in |
|
2000; he previously served as an air traffic controller in the |
|
U.S. Air Force for nearly eight years and was honored with several |
|
military awards; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Hinojosa has worked tirelessly to advance the |
|
cause of social justice, and his commitment to creating a society of |
|
greater fairness and opportunity is a source of continuing |
|
inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor David G. Hinojosa for his achievements as |
|
Southwest regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense |
|
and Educational Fund and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
