H.R. No. 1901

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Testicular Cancer Foundation is doing an
exceptional job of raising awareness of testicular cancer and
emphasizing the importance of early and regular screenings for the
  disease; and
WHEREAS, Testicular cancer is most common in young or
middle-aged men between the ages of 15 and 35; each year, nearly
9,000 new cases occur in the United States, and approximately 380
men in the United States die from the disease; and
WHEREAS, When the presence of testicular cancer is restricted
to the testicle, a single surgical procedure can usually treat the
disease fully, but if the cancer has spread to additional tissue,
patients often face extensive treatments including chemotherapy
and radiation; like many diseases, early detection can be key to a
  successful outcome; and
WHEREAS, Since 2009, the Testicular Cancer Foundation has
provided education and support to young men and has helped raise
awareness of the disease by stressing the need for regular
  self-examinations; and
WHEREAS, The foundation has gained attention for creating
shower cards that depict clear and simple steps for a self-check
examination, and between 2012 and 2014, more than 40,000
potentially lifesaving cards were distributed; and
WHEREAS, The Testicular Cancer Foundation is committed to
providing accurate, factual, and encouraging information about
testicular cancer, and all those who work to promote its mission are
indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the staff and leadership of the
Testicular Cancer Foundation and recognize April 2015 as Testicular
Cancer Month in Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
