R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a |
|
special occasion, and Elizabeth Williams of Rains County celebrated |
|
this significant milestone in her life on December 22, 2014, to the |
|
delight of her family and friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in the Willow Springs community in 1914, the |
|
former Elizabeth Armstrong is the daughter of Russell and Mattie |
|
Armstrong; the sixth of seven children, she helped out on the family |
|
farm by picking cotton and performing other chores in her youth; |
|
after moving to Dallas, she worked at Skillern's Drugstore for a few |
|
years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to Rains County, she was joined in |
|
matrimony to Earl Williams, and the couple shared a fulfilling |
|
relationship until his passing in 1986; for many years, |
|
Mrs. Williams has been a valued member of Emory Church of Christ; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A cancer survivor, Mrs. Williams now enjoys good |
|
health, and she credits crossword puzzles with keeping her mind |
|
sharp; she also carefully reads every page of the Rains County |
|
Leader, and she takes pleasure in cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, |
|
although she waxes a little nostalgic for the team's Tom Landry |
|
days; and |
|
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Williams is a source of tremendous |
|
inspiration to many people, and in sharing the experience gained |
|
through a century of life well lived, she provides a precious gift |
|
of wisdom that benefits all who are fortunate enough to know her; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Williams on her 100th |
|
birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
