R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Arthur Skelton retired from the Chapel Hill |
|
|
Independent School District in December 2014, and the conclusion of |
|
|
his outstanding career provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on |
|
|
the contributions of this esteemed professional; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, "Butch" Skelton has a long-standing connection to |
|
|
Chapel Hill ISD, as his father and grandfather both served on the |
|
|
school board, and he and his siblings attended school in the |
|
|
district; following his high school graduation in 1955, he enrolled |
|
|
at East Texas State University and earned a bachelor's degree in |
|
|
business administration, and he later returned to the university |
|
|
and completed a master's degree in education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This veteran educator taught at Mineola High School |
|
|
before joining Chapel Hill ISD in 1986; initially a teacher, he |
|
|
later became a principal and most recently served the district as |
|
|
elementary assistant principal and as an administrator; during his |
|
|
tenure, he saw enrollment grow to upwards of 1,000 students, and the |
|
|
guidance he provided to the district's teachers helped them to |
|
|
excel in their educational mission; Chapel Hill campuses have |
|
|
consistently received high ratings in state testing, and the |
|
|
elementary school was recognized as part of the prestigious Blue |
|
|
Ribbon Schools Program by the U.S. Department of Education in 2009; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Butch Skelton helped provide Chapel |
|
|
Hill's young people with a strong foundation on which to build, and |
|
|
he may reflect with pride on his many achievements as he begins the |
|
|
next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Arthur Skelton on his retirement |
|
|
from the Chapel Hill Independent School District and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Skelton as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
