R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, John E. Bierschwale is retiring as deputy city
  manager of Schertz on September 30, 2015, drawing to a close a
  distinguished career in municipal government that has spanned 37
  years; and
         WHEREAS, Long dedicated to serving his hometown, Johnny
  Bierschwale became a volunteer firefighter at the age of 15, and in
  1978, he was hired by the city's streets and parks department and
  was sworn in as a reserve police officer, a role he enjoyed for more
  than a decade; he went on to be employed by the water department for
  13 years and was later promoted to director of public works in July
  1993; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bierschwale was named assistant city manager in
  2002 and appointed deputy city manager in 2014; throughout his
  tenure he has worked tirelessly to advance the common good, and his
  outstanding efforts have earned him the deep appreciation of
  colleagues and fellow citizens alike; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Bierschwale has attained
  numerous certifications from Texas A&M University and Texas State
  University in such areas as law enforcement, waterworks, safety,
  emergency response, fire service, disaster preparedness, and
  management; in addition, he was presented with the 2010 Steve
  Simonson Community Service Award by the city and the 1994
  Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Municipal League; and
         WHEREAS, With his skill, professionalism, and commitment to
  excellence, Johnny Bierschwale has helped make Schertz an even
  better place in which to live, and he may reflect with satisfaction
  on all that he has achieved as he embarks on the next exciting
  chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend John E. Bierschwale on his service with
  the City of Schertz and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bierschwale as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
