R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Over nearly half a century, Shriners Hospital for
  Children at Galveston has provided compassionate, innovative care
  to pediatric patients with burn injuries; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1966 with funds allocated by the Shriners
  of North America, the hospital grew out of a pediatric burn unit
  initially housed on The University of Texas Medical Branch campus;
  with the ongoing support of the Shriners and UTMB, faculty and staff
  of the institute have continued to seek better outcomes for
  children by developing more advanced techniques, and because of the
  hospital's reputation for comprehensive pediatric burn care, it has
  received patients from around the world; and
         WHEREAS, Located in the heart of Galveston, Shriners Hospital
  for Children served patients with cleft lip and palate disorders
  until 2008, when the facility was damaged by Hurricane Ike, and the
  decision was made to relocate that program to a sister institution,
  Shriners Orthopedic Hospital for Children in Houston; the
  Galveston-based hospital remains one of four Shriners Hospitals
  that specialize in burn care, and in 2012, it joined the Texas
  Medical Center as its 50th member institution; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the hospital houses 30 beds, which are
  divided between an intensive care unit and a reconstruction and
  plastic surgery unit, and it also includes three operating rooms, a
  multi-bed recovery room, and various clinics; all children are
  welcomed at the center regardless of their family's ability to pay,
  and every effort is made to ensure patients a safe, friendly, and
  comfortable environment as they recover; and
         WHEREAS, Shriners Hospital for Children has excelled at its
  mission of bringing new hope to patients coping with some of the
  most difficult and complex childhood injuries, and through their
  commitment to clinical and research excellence, the center's
  medical staff have made countless success stories possible; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Shriners Hospital for Children at
  Galveston and extend to all those associated with the hospital
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Shriners Hospital as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
